Offensively the Titans couldn’t seem to string anything together to get some runs on the board early and ended up leaving too many men on base. Toward the end of the game, they had started to shift the momentum, but it ended up being a case of too little too late, and the game ended 10-6 in favor of the Razorbacks.

This means in order to stay alive in Omaha, the Titans will have to battle back from the losers bracket against a tough Virginia team, who is making their first ever College World Series appearance. The Titans and Cavaliers have met before in post season play with the Titans taking the victory. Will they be victorious again today? It remains to be seen, and in my opinion will depend on whether the Titans have lost their Omaha jitters or not. Daniel Renken will be on the bump and if the Titans play Titan ball, we should see them emerge from the loser’s bracket to battle another day. The Titans do have a history of fighting well out of the loser’s bracket, so may the best team win and may they be wearing orange and blue.

The story came down to Khris Davis who went 4 for 4 and hit 3 back to back home runs to bring in 6 RBI’s. An incredible accomplishment that has not been completed at Goodwin field since 2001 in the super Regionals. We were also excited that Tyler Pill notched his first collegiate win, completing 5.1 innings of 4 hit ball and 2 earned runs. Way to go Khris and Tyler. All in all, the Titans had a good weekend of baseball. May the streak continue.

The Titans against the Stanford Cardinal is always a nail biting series for Titan fans as they seem to be our nemesis team. Fortunately, the series this weekend is being played on Goodwin Field instead of the Sunken Diamond so we had a glimmer of hope for a win or two. With two games in the books, and both of them wins, we have won the series and today’s game will only determine whether or not we complete the sweep.

Friday night was a good night to be a Titan fan as we watched the first Grand Slam of the season tower over the Goodwin Field scoreboard. A shot by Jared Clark, our senior first baseman, and his first home run on the season. We followed Saturday with a tight game, led by a stellar performance by pitcher, Kyle Whitten, and bested the Cardinal 3-2.

Having a birthday party for my niece to attend today, we will not be able to be in the seats while our fomer section K’er, Tyler Pill takes the mound, but we will be with him and the rest of the Titans in spirit as the battle the Cardinal for the 3rd time this season. Go Titans!

It is great to see all of the people and catch up with them. We sit in a section that is very much like family, so the first game of the season is a little like a reunion for all concerned. We get an oppportunity to greet old friends and make new ones.

So baseball season is finally here and we were excited to attend the opening home game tonight at Goodwin Field. We opened this year against the TCU Horned Frogs. It was a great game. TCU would score, and the Titans would answer. Then TCU pulled ahead by two in the top of the seventh, so the Titans answered by putting up a 4 in the bottom of the seventh. The crowd was solidly behind all of our players, and with every hit, the crowd got louder and more supportive. Then in the top of the ninth it happened. . . TCU was able to even the score again.

We headed into the bottom of the ninth with the score at 6 all. We got a couple of guys on base and then Tyler Pill was put in to pinch hit, and our section went wild. Tyler is in his freshman year as a Titan, but he and his folks sat behind us for four years while his older brother, Brett, who now plays for the Giants organization played for the Titans. We all felt a surge of pride that OUR Tyler was up to the plate. Denny and I just knew that Tyler was going to get a hit.

He had a two-one count and the pitch was thrown, and Tyler gave it the sweet Pill swing and the ball bounced off the top of the wall and over the fence. Ground rule double on a game winning swing of the bat. What a great end to a terrific game. Both teams played hard and it was a great start to a new season.
