By mid-December 2008, I struggled in the battle to get my weight back down. I had gained back 40 pounds of the 75 I had lost, and couldn’t seem to get it going the right direction. In the war against weight, this is the point of despair. You’re trying not to get desperate, but everything weight related catches your eye. Do you realize how many ads there are surrounding us with sure-fire methods of losing weight? You see them on TV, magazines are full of them, there are billboards, and radio ads, and the internet may be the worst, because they spring up from a site that has nothing to do with weight loss methods. Need I even mention Spam? I think 50% of the Spam that I get promises me the new and improved path to thinness. It’s either that or someone wants to sell me Viagara – or something along those lines. One of these days, I’m going to respond to one of those and tell them that they’re barking up the wrong tree, but in an oh, so colorful way.
If all of these methods that bombard us on a daily basis, worked, then why are so many people still obese? I think the ads have reached the point of diminishing returns too because they are so prevalent, you mentally block them out. Unless of course, your weight has been on the rise and you are reaching the point of desperation. I wasn’t desperate, I was simply resolved. I needed to find another way to reduce my weight, and it wasn’t going to be accomplished by the latest dieting craze. or super berry. I had outgrown my clothes, and was going the wrong direction in my sizes. So, I called my doctor and asked for a consultation.
My doctor has been very supportive of my attempts to lose weight, and was as delighted with the success I was having with ChefsDiet as I was. So I knew he would listen seriously when I approached him to find out his thoughts on a surgical answer to the issue at hand. We sat down and he asked what I needed to see him about and I responded that I was unhappy with the current direction my weight was taking and wanted to know what he thought about the lapband procedure. I no sooner had the word lapband out of my mouth and he started nodding and said Yes! very emphatically. I was so startled by his immediate positive response, I think my mouth started flapping like a fish out of water. Then he popped up and said, just a minute and left the room. I thought there would be a little more discussion, and I was anticipating the need to convince him this was the right direction for me. He came quickly back into the room and put some Glucose Control Boost in my hands and said here’s your lunch. The upshot was he wanted me to go on a liquid diet prior to the surgery. His feeling was that I was a very good candidate for the surgery and very likely to have success with it
So, the decision had been made, along with the full blessings of my doctor. He referred me to Dr. Peter LePort, who runs SmartDimensions, and I was on to the next phase of my weight loss journey – waiting for it to happen.
