Titans had their first home game after the 11-day road trip this evening against the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles. This weekends series is Thursday through Saturday instead of the normal Friday through Sunday because Oral Roberts doesn’t play on Sundays. Because it was an abnormal Thursday night start to the series and the March madness dance was going on, attendance was a little sparser than usual and the official number came in at 1565.
The Titans notched another win bringing their season record up to 14-3. The final score was 8-3 and Daniel Renken took his 4th win on the season. The offense also swung it’s way to the eleventh double digit hitting game in a row, with 15 hits. While we won and our bats were still hot, we weren’t quite playing Titan brand baseball. Gary Brown had a couple of uncharacterstic throwing errors early on in the game, but he then settled down after a trip to the mound by head coach Dave Serrano and made some excellent defensive plays and throws later in the game.
Daniel Renken struck out 9 batters in 5.1 innings and only gave up 1 hit while on the mound. He also walked 5 batters, which led to one unearned run on a Gary Brown error. Noe Ramirez came on in relief for Renken and acquited himself very well, striking out 4 of the 9 batters he faced and only gave up one hit, and no free passes. Ryan Ackland rounded out the Titan relief coming on in the ninth giving up one hit, one run, and one walk.
Nick Ramirez only hit one during the game, but it was a long ball that was gone from the crack of the bat. Christian Colon went 4 for 5 with 3 RBI’s, and was only missing the home run to hit for the cycle. Joe Scott went 3 for 4 and Josh Fellhauer, Jared Clark, and Jeff Newman all batted 500 for the game.
It was good to see the boys back at Goodwin Field.
